Dog Walker

Essential Function/Major Responsibilities:

  • Daily, thorough cleaning of all animal areas, including inside/outside runs, cat areas, floors, dishes, bedding, etc.

  • Spot cleaning of animal and public areas throughout the day.

  • Feeding the animals, including providing special diets as needed.

  • Monitoring the health of the animals on an ongoing basis and rapidly identifying any health problems or conditions (medical or behavioral) and immediately reporting it to the supervisor.

  • Medicating animals as directed.

  • Socializing pets and light grooming the animals.

  • Assessing the temperament of the animals to facilitate finding the best possible placement for each individual animal.

  • Doing laundry, dishes, washing windows, cleaning and mopping public areas as needed.

  • Providing a healthy, safe, clean and pleasant environment and facilities for the animals and the public.

  • Providing transportation for animals as needed, to and from vet appointments, clients homes, etc. *a reliable vehicle and insurance is required for this position. Pet Care Associates must Live in Servicing Areas Promoting a humane and caring attitude toward all animals.

  • Treating all animals humanely, properly, and with compassion at all times, regardless of the situation or circumstance.

  • Maintaining a friendly demeanor and providing good customer service.

  • Working courteously and cooperatively with other staff members, and working autonomously. 

  • Stocking supplies.

  • Filling in for other areas and performing other tasks/functions as needed, including helping out at special events.

  • Bonus is to be able to work major holidays, weekends, & be on call.

 

Physical Requirements: Physical ability to walk and/or stand on your feet throughout a normal workday required. Physical ability to engage in repetitive motions of legs, arms, and hands, to hear, to see, to move animals and goods. Physical ability to push up to 150 pounds and carry up to 50 pounds regularly throughout a normal workday required Allergic conditions, which would be aggravated when handling or working with animals, may be a disqualification. Working conditions include working alone, working outside in varying weather conditions, frequent interruptions, and some evening meetings/classes.

What You’ll Be Working On

  • Utilize grooming instruments such as shears, clippers, dryers, nail clippers, etc.

  • Perform grooming services per client’s instructions

  • Direct customer service experience to establish a trusting bond with our clients

  • High standard for cleanliness to keep your workstation neat and tidy

  • Bathing and clipping dogs to conform to a variety of breed-specific standard styles

  • Detangling and removing matted hair

  • Drying the coat

  • Trimming nails

  • Cleaning the ears

  • Brushing teeth

  • Accommodating any special requests from the owner

  • Maintain the cleanliness of the shop and grooming stations

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required

  • Completion of training in grooming or certification of grooming preferred

  • At least one-year experience grooming to breed-specific standards preferred

  • At least one-year experience in an animal handling or customer service role in a veterinary practice or pet care business preferred

  • Weekend availability preferred

  • Demonstrated commitment to ethics and integrity

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Team player with the ability to work independently to meet deadlines, goals, and objectives

  • Strong organization, time management, and attention to detail

  • Strong interpersonal skills with a warm, positive demeanor
